Veronica Mars may be gone, but it's certainly not forgotten. In fact, the cult series has maintained a solid fan base ever since the CW decided to pull the plug on it after three critically acclaimed seasons. While series creator Rob Thomas has often stated his interest in tying up loose ends by turning Veronica Marsinto a feature film, discussions about the project have never materialized. More than a year after the show was officially canceled, however, Thomas hasn't given up on the idea. The creator recently revealed to Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello that he'd love to move forward with the film, but his busy schedule doesn't give him much time to think about it.
"Kristen [Bell] and I ran into each other, and we did discuss a Veronica movie," Thomas confirmed toAusiello, who also reveals that Thomas had a few conversations with Veronica Mars executive producer Joel Silver. Silver is best known for producing big budget films such as The Matrix and Speed Racer, so he definitely knows a thing or two about shepherding projects to the big screen.
"It's very tough to focus on it right now with two pilots on my plate," Thomas added, referring to his two ABC projects: a reworking of his '90s dramedy Cupid, and an adaptation of the New Zealand series Outrageous Fortune. "But as soon as I have any free time, that's my top priority."
As for lead star Kristen Bell, who is currently appearing on NBC's science fiction hit Heroes, she considers it a "major compliment" that people are still interested in the character. "[Fans] still ask me all the time if the show's coming back. Emotionally, I don't want to think about Veronica Mars every day because it really does make me sad," she said.
